Мой любимый чистильщик стал бесплатным. Ура.

It wouldn't feel like the holiday season if we were to keep this
information away from you...

Just like Santa's little helpers, everyone at Macecraft Software have been
working extra hard to prepare what can only be described as the biggest
event in the history of jv16 PowerTools and the company itself.

As you may know, we have been developing jv16 PowerTools for well over 10
years. It started as freeware, was later converted to shareware and now we
feel it is the perfect time to make history and take the software to the
next level: We want to release jv16 PowerTools as free, open source
software!

Open source software means that the software is free to use (yes, by anyone
and everyone). But also, the source code, which is the blueprint of how the
software is built and how it works, is made public and for everyone to see
and improve.

В чем печалька? Не пользовался этим замечательным инструментов с 2008 г и дальше примерно так же собираюсь. Сомнительно счастье "почистить" реестр как-то миновало.

Не довелось пользоваться чистильщиками.
Единственное исключение -- один раз на чужом компе.

Перевод настолько неприличный, что решили оставить как есть. И что характерно, именно в русском языке адекватный перевод этого глагола одним словом отсутствует. Зато антоним к нему имеется, что какбэ намекает...

А собственно где сказано что эти маленькие санты теперь будут давать бесплатно? Они говорят про open sourse то есть открытый и свободный для использования каждому евривану исходный код.

Не пойму что все так возбудились? Хитрый финт ушами разработчики сделали всего то: "передайте наше письмо счастья дальше и мы (может быть) таким образом вместе найдем финансирование, чтобы сделать данный продукт бесплатным и с открытым кодом." В переводе надмозга звучит так - "проект разорился, но мы не оставляем надежды под конец перед закрытием выжать из него последние деньги, а потом выложим исходники и делайте с ним что хотите"

Нет, они решили зарабатывать на саппорте, в Европе это модно и прибыльно, даже прибыльней продаж. Как-то так.

We decided to reach out to you to explain how this will affect your status
as a Platinum VIP customer.

It is important to point out that we are not "giving the product away for
free" in the essence of our customers losing something. The truth is the
very opposite, if we do go open source, our customers would greatly
benefit.

As a Platinum VIP user you could continue to use the program without having
to pay for any upgrade fees, as promised to you when you purchased the
Platinum VIP package. However, you would also have the huge benefit of
faster and higher quality improvements from the development community. New
features, custom versions, faster functionality fixes and improvements.

In addition, you would still be entitled for technical support provided by
Macecraft Software.

While we were looking into different options for the future of jv16
PowerTools and Macecraft Software, the more obvious option of selling the
product to another company was seen to be clearly not as beneficial to our
existing customers and users as the option of going open source. Selling
the product may have been financially more beneficial for the current
owners of Macecraft but for customers and users, it would have meant many
new questions and uncertainty about where the product will be going in the
future. And in case of the product being sold to an existing competitor, it
would have most likely meant the end of jv16 PowerTools as a standalone
software.

The option of going open source via crowd funding is clearly the better
option for you, as a Platinum VIP customer. And we would also like to use
this opportunity to thank you for your support you have given us so far and
we hope, you will show us your support with the Open Source Campaign as
well.
